Site back up

I have a memory page that I got from an e-mail years ago and decided to post the photos on this site. Someone clicked Stumble Upon (for those pages only) and I got 3,500 people visiting those pages. I didn't want to reconfigure at that time so I just took everything down. I get new bandwidth every month with my "plan" so here we are again to see what happens. I don't usually have a lot of people visiting here and didn't want to expand my "plan". I hope it has settled down because I can certainly fix the problem when I have the time, but right now I don't have the time. Soon, though .. right?

I love hearing from you and hope you stay in touch. Kathie

New Page: Response to Where Are They:

Connections and information is a lot of what this site is about. I'm pleased to share information about Dennis Zaebst. Let his sharing about his journey inspire you ALL to connect! Thanks, Dennis!

Ed Naufziger and Dave Smith also sent me updates.

New Photo Post: 1958 Sixth Grade: South School:

South Elementary Galion Ohio / Wilma Crall ElementaryThe hunting/sorting continues in the Hazlett house. Here's a gem for those of us who were in Ms. Willma Crall's Sixth Grade Class at South School.

Updated: November 25

I've just been doing some clean-up here. I was amazed to discover I had 50 broken links. I'm down to 34. Looking for anything you can't find? Found any broken links? Let me know. Thanks. Kathie.

"Our Music" Site:

Marilyn Redden Kirsch (Galion Class of '62) posted this on Facebook and I thought it would fit on here very nicely as well. If you want to browse through these pages while you listen to "remember when" music, just right click over the link and chose "open in new window" and you can do both ... listen and browse. Here's the link:

New Idea:

I failed on my challenge. I received several responses to my photo challenge and I could not get my morphing program to work. I tried several different configurations and failed. I apologize to those who responded. I will continue to try.

In the meantime, I wanted to let you all know that I have received a few e-mails from some other classmates from across the globe. I have had a couple of requests for permission to post pictures found on this site and a few others thanking me for the trip down memory lane. So here's my question. Anybody got any high school memories they'd like to share here? Want to share any memories from our era? I'll post 'em --

For starters: Has anybody seen the movie, "Across the Universe"? It's a musical. That could get us started.

CHALLENGE:

January 20, 2011 It's-All-About-Me-Challenge to my classmates ... and any other Class of 64 that would like to post. Several years ago I was looking at my high school yearbook photo. I couldn't connect. Was that really me? (I know -- sounds weird) Anyway, being a computer person I decided to find a way to connect (to myself. I know. I know.). I found three other pictures of me and placed them side by side ( 3, 18, 38, 59). Then I decided to try to morph them together. I was secretly (just to myself, of course) afraid that I would end up even more depressed as I spanned the years (in 8 seconds) and watched myself grow more "mature". I was surprised at the result. The opposite happened. It is what it is and it's OK.

me in 8 seconds

Here's the challenge. I will, for the first five people who contact me with interest, morph up to 4 photos of their choosing -- assuming I remember how. Could be of you / your children / grands or any combination. If they turn out to be any good -- and why wouldn't they? -- I will do more -- for a price (tbd after I see how hard it is) Up for it? I will post the results with permission of the winners. Contact me if you are interested: galionclassof64@gmail.com or fill out the form.

NOTE: The complete 1989 Memory Book has been scanned and uploaded from our 25th Reunion. Check it out.

Updated: April 20, 2010 Thanks, Jim McCalla! Jim sent me an e-mail, identifying himself in the South School 4th grade class photo. Thanks for visiting. I really appreciate your addition! Kathie

01/17/10: Happy New Year! For those of you who have been here before, the former front page has been moved to this location.

We were in Galion over the past Christmas holidays for a brief visit. Jerry and I went for an early morning walk 12/26/09 and I took advantage of the time to take some photos. Traffic was lite as you can see, the sky was a bit overcast and it was really cold, but I got lost behind the lens. (So lost I forgot my sister was making breakfast for us -- sorry, Lisa.) When we were discovered wandering the streets by my brother-in-law who was on recon wondering what happened ... we stopped and went home quickly to get ready for the rest of our day. However, I really wish I could have stayed on the streets. I think you can see why. I decided to post these photos for those of you who haven't been back in a long while as well as for those of you who still live there and probably don't see it anymore. For twenty consecutive years of my early life and the additional 40+ periodic years of my adult life these buildings were/are the archetecture of my life. They are both familiar and mysteries to me, still. I remember the businesses they used to house; the places I worked and shopped; ate and visited with my friends.

I will also include homes. Because Jerry and I were walking from downtown to where Jerry lived on Grant street, I took photos of his friends houses and his memories. I would love to add to these images -- ALL -- of your homes and haunts with as much history as anyone would like to share. Give me an address and next time I go there, I'll photograph it (or the empty lot it is now) and post it. Just let me know. If anyone wants to send me a photo to add -- you know I will!

November 1, 2010: Soon I am going to introduce you to another Class of 1964 member. His name is Jim Locke. He contacted me because of the Retrolife Photo page (currently redirected).

Niskayuna High School had almost 1000 students spread over 4 grades, so our class of 64 was about the same size as yours. I have reconnected with a number of my former high school classmates through facebook.

Just a few days ago I got a "forward" that had a bunch of ads in it -- an interest which was prompted by Mad Men. I turned them into an old advertising page (currently redirected) too, which may be of interest to some of you.

Comments welcome.

There are (at least) three ways to add to the site:

  1. Recommended books, movies, other links
  2. All the elementary school pages, junior high, senior high.
  3. Photos, photos, photos
  4. Stories and more stories.
  5. Programs from our plays and concerts, newspaper articles.

Whoa .. better stop .. this is getting out of hand!
